What are Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)?
STIs are infections acquired por la transmisión de un microorganismo, bacteria, virus, hongo o parásito durante las relaciones sexuales sin protección (uso de condón) o fluidos. through the transmission of a microorganism—bacteria, virus, fungus, or parasite—during unprotected sexual intercourse (without the use of a condom) or through fluids.
STIs can affect parts of both female and male sexual organs. They can cause symptoms ranging from burning during urination or sexual intercourse, itching, swelling, bad odor, sores, warts, or lumps on the sexual organs, and can lead to infertility and death.
Many sexually transmitted infections are initially asymptomatic. Timely detection allows for optimal treatment.
We offer rapid tests for the detection of Sexually Transmitted Infections such as: HIV, Hepatitis C, Chlamydia and Syphilis.
HIV attacks the body’s defenses by entering the organism, damaging the immune system and weakening it, leaving the body vulnerable to many infectious agents. It can progress to AIDS.
Symptoms can vary depending on the individual and the time since transmission or infection. The only way to know for sure if you have HIV is with a blood test. There is no cure, but treatment helps control the virus and reduces the risk of progressing to AIDS.
A disease in which a virus transmitted through sexual relations, blood transfusions, or infected needles causes inflammation of the liver.
Initially, there are no symptoms, but it can cause extreme fatigue, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. The only way to know for sure if you have Hepatitis C is with a blood sample.
Chlamydia is an infection caused by a type of bacteria transmitted through sexual contact. Without treatment, it can cause pelvic inflammation and infertility in both women and men. It is the most common infection among young people.
1 in every 15 sexually active women carries it, with 80% showing no symptoms (although there may be discharge and pain during urination).
Some symptoms include lower abdominal pain, inflammation and/or pain in the testicles (epididymitis), and rectal pain.
The only way to know for sure if you have Chlamydia is through a test on the cervix or urethra.
Syphilis is a disease caused by bacteria. In the first stage, ulcers may appear on the genital organs, in a second stage, a rash may appear anywhere on the body, flu-like symptoms, and finally, in the third stage, there is fever, hair loss, and it affects the brain and heart.
If detected early, it can be curable with treatment. The only way to know for sure if you have Syphilis is with a blood sample.
